ABSTRACT
THE IMPACT OF HEDGE FUNDS ON INVESTMENT STRATEGIES
This study examines the impact of hedge funds on investment strategies with objectives: (1) to assess the role of hedge funds in enhancing portfolio performance; (2) to identify the strategies employed by hedge funds; (3) to understand the challenges in hedge fund investments. A survey research design is employed to collect quantitative data. Using Taro Yamane's formula, a sample size of 310 respondents from Lagos is selected, representing various hedge fund investors. A prominent hedge fund is chosen as the case study due to its diverse investment strategies. The reliability coefficient score for the survey instrument is 0.88. Findings indicate that hedge funds significantly enhance portfolio performance through strategies such as long/short equity, market neutral, and global macro. However, challenges include high fees, lack of transparency, and regulatory constraints. It is recommended that investors consider hedge funds for portfolio diversification, conduct thorough due diligence, and understand the specific strategies employed by hedge funds to optimize investment outcomes.
